General Directorate of Standardization (DPS). General Directorate of Standardization (DPS) is a non-profit public institution acting as the National Standards Body of the Republic of Albania, except telecommunication field. DPS reports to the Minister responsible for the economy, actually Ministry of Economy, Trade and Energy, it has its own budget and represents the Republic of Albania at European and International Organizations dealing with standards like CEN, CENELEC, ISO, IEC.
The mission of DPS is to accomplish the following goals of standardization:
increasing the safety level of products and processes
protecting human health and lives and environmental protection
promoting the quality of products, processes and services
ensuring the appropriate use of work, materials and energy
improving production efficiency
controlling variety, ensuring compatibility and interchangeability, and
removing technical barriers to international trade.
DPS’ priorities
DPS is working to fulfill the conditions for becoming full member of the European Organizations for Standardization, CEN and CENELEC. DPS is actively promoting the benefits of standards expecting a more active participation of the interested parties in the standardization process. Adoption of harmonized standards to support the implementation of the New Approach Directives, remain a priority. All adopted standards are made available to the public and DPS is working hard to increase the sales of standards.
